The Cape Town Marimba Festival will take place on Friday 24 April 2015, at 19h45 at the Baxter Concert Hall, Baxter Theatre Complex, Rondebosch.
The Cape Town Marimba Festival is a joint venture between the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival and Woodworx Marimbas.
Woodworx Marimbas is involved in the development of African music on the marimba. The organisation provides marimba teachers to schools, manufactures and supplies marimba instruments and operates as a performing band. Woodworx’ vision is to provide South African youth with the opportunity of playing African music so that they may in turn use their skills and knowledge to inspire, teach and empower others, thus their slogan, “Play it forward”. Around the Cape, Woodworx Marimbas is responsible for the tuition of approximately 400 students in marimba bands in schools and organisations. Through these opportunities students will create an African music identity for themselves, their school, their community and their country South Africa.
